December 2012: Newsletter
First of all we would like to wish you all a very happy, healthy 2013. For many of us it has started with the usual coughs, colds and flu so we trust that it has not affected the festivities too much. We spent a week with family in the UK just before Christmas so that was a welcome break.
The end of last year finished very well for us here. Following on from the brilliant week for Jochen and Christian at the beginning of November, the lake continued to fish well for 3 French guys. In sessions lasting only 3 days for each of them they managed PB’s too with fish to 48lb from 19 landed. Having been watching all this on Facebook and staying up half the night watching weather reports a very excited Ian Smith (Team Nash Tackle) and his friend Paul Armfield came for a week in the middle of November and also had a very enjoyable week. Many of you will have seen the photos of Ian now on our home page and the new video clip he kindly made for us whilst they were here (see also the home page) as well as the many photos posted on Facebook. A personal best for him arrived in the shape of a lovely mirror at 45lb 6oz on the Sunday night, (his 5th fish to that point) and he went on to land another 2 40’s and 29 fish in total.
The weather remained very mild for the time of year and so 5 French fishermen decided to make the most of it and arrived on Boxing Day for 3 nights. The chalet swim produced the most runs, 12 in all, though swim 10 produced the biggest fish, a nice mirror of 48lb. So a good fish to end the season with for them.
Now we are back to the business of maintenance. Work is already under way to repair the outflow area of the chalet that was leaking badly last year. It is our intention to fill in the pit immediately behind the chalet to create a new lawned area for families to enjoy as an eating area being between the swim and the chalet itself and it will be easier to get to the rods too with steps down from the terrace on to the new lawn. A lick of paint here and there on the inside too and it will be ready for the first booking in April. The shower block will also be retiled this winter to help make the floor easier to keep clean. So along with the strimming and lopping of branches that should keep us busy for a few weeks, as long as the mild weather continues.
May we remind you that from this year we will only allow you to fish with fresh boilies and the number of rods has been reduced to 3 per person.
We would like to thank you for the many Christmas cards, emails, e-cards etc that you have sent us, it’s much appreciated and its great to catch up with all your news too. So we hope that we will see many of you lakeside again this year, but for those that we don’t, we hope you have a good trip wherever you go this year.
