March 2013: Newsletter
We trust this finds you all in good health and getting over the worst of the weather now. It has been a long winter for us all this year and that will no doubt have some effect on the weights of the fish at the start of this year and spawning dates. But we hear that better weather is on its way and we have had the first of our brave anglers who have battled against some horrible weather to be rewarded with some nice fish.
Simon Stuart and his friend affectionately known as 'Lemsip' had 5 fish over their 2 night stay at the beginning of March the highlight of which was a beautiful common at 51lb 10oz and an overall average of 33lb. We then had a quiet couple of weeks until Willem and Piet arrived for a week on the 16th March. For the past 3 years they have come the same week every year and had enjoyed gorgeous weather and went home with a t-shirt tan but the law of averages says that sooner or later they would have bad weather and this was exactly what they got this year. We had all 4 seasons in 1 week, from rain and sleet then hail and snow then gorgeous sunshine. Despite all that they finished with a respectable 25 fish on the bank including 7 over 30lb with 2 at 39.5lb and an average of 27lb for the week.
Last week was a bit busier when our season started properly with 2 anglers in the chalet, 2 on swim 10 and 1 on swim 11 all for a week, and a local French angler on swim 1 for 3 nights. It got off to a cold, wet and windy start and didn't improve a great deal all week. But the fishing stayed consistent and they finished with 13 fish on the chalet swim, biggest 39.5lb, 16 fish on swim 10, biggest 2 were both 38lb, 5 fish on swim 11, biggest a lovely common at 49lb, and during the 3 nights on swim 1 he finished on 5 fish the biggest another common at 45lb. So with 17 other fish over 30lb the overall average for the week was 28lb 5oz.
We have some last minute offers to tell you about in that at the end of this week we have unexpectedly 2 weeks available in the chalet so if anyone is interested we will offer a discount as its such a late booking.
So till next month ...
